It did feel great to get in ALL my little runs this week. I am totally grateful for the awesome chiropractor & massage therapist in my 'hood. Someone must have hit me with a stupid stick to not notice their office at the front of our 'hood. Seriously, I'm kicking myself for not going there last Fall!
Todays 6 miler was 6.14 per my garmin at a 9:22 pace. At least I'm not slowing down on these weekend runs. The concrete sidewalks plus the last couple of hills on the concrete sidewalks were killing my legs but I'll live. The ankle wrap did well, got it on just right, I guess...the rain held off & started about 10 minutes after we finished. I hung around for the nutrition clinic & ended up buying some wafer-like stingers. They dissolve in your mouth really well. I got the honey & the vanilla pure natural energy Stinger Waffles. I just wonder how well they'd hold up in a zip lock bag for 13.1 miles much less 26.2. I can't stand to chew the beans while running. I did ok with the shot bloks last Fall but I'd like to get away from anything that's gooey. My hands get sticky & it's hard to get anything like that out of the bags most of the time.
I also got fitted for new shoes. Hello, the dude put me in Mizuno Wave 15's after watching me run in them several times!! I was shocked! He looked at the shoes I had just run in which were my Saucony Omni Progrids (bought last summer/early Fall). He noticed my arch is rubbing the insert too much, wearing it away. The insert was put in there not long after I bought the shoes. Typically, I retire my shoes after about 225-250 miles because it's around that mileage that I feel like there's no cushion in them anymore. I generally keep about 4 pairs that I rotate. He measured my foot several times to make sure I was wearing the right size. (I wear a 9 running shoe but wear 8-8 1/2 in regular shoes). Turns out he liked the fact that I was in a 9 but he thinks they're too wide for me. I've been buying 9B. He put me in a narrow 9. Man, what a difference! I felt like I had a little more support & they were so much lighter! To accommodate the slight overpronation that I have he put the black super feet in them. Turns out the black ones only stablize the heel. The greens were stabilizing my arch a little too much. (Like I said, the arch of the greens were rubbing my foot.) He pointed out that the area on the arch that was worn down was directly across from the sore tendon area. (Confused yet?)
Anyway, I'm in "experimental mode" right now with my new NEUTRAL, NARROW shoes so time will tell. He basically told me that the saucony omni progrid was just a little too much shoe for me & that he didn't observe enough pronation problems to warrant staying in them. So, who knows... I do love the fact that these shoes feel so much lighter. I felt like running that 6 miler all over again when I put those shoes on and that's no lie. I love the feel of new running shoes. ;-) Neutal running shoes? really? for real? I kept asking him as if he was full of it but he assured me, "The Saucony omni's really could be part of the problem with the IT Band." That's when I said, "Ok, I'll take them." ha!
I had a super productive morning......I picked up one of Joey's b-day gifts at the bookstore in our neighborhood & got a late breakfast at the coffee shop in our 'hood. Spreading the $ in our local businesses. ;-)
We've pre-prepped our Super Bowl food for tomorrow. Can't wait to catch up with Hannah & Jeff.

TGIFriday & happy Super Bowl weekend!!!!!!
Being the SEC fan that I am...I "heart" Eli. ;-)
Back in '08 when they played the Pats in the Super Bowl, I watched it with the Heusers. We screamed a lot that night as you can imagine if you watched that game. I like Drew Brees too but honestly that was the last time I really enjoyed the Super Bowl in a big way! And as for Madonna & the other half time acts, I think it's going to be the best half time show we've had in a long time. (the haters on Facebook have obviously never seen her in concert)
Joe & I are having the Heusers at our place Sunday along with Stanley (their old dog named after the Stanley cup) ha! I can't wait to run this weekend & I can wait for Sunday night football!!!!!!!

no cracks...just some tendon issues
So, I have some tendon tears that are causing the off and on pain in the right calf/ankle area.
This is all due to the fact that my LEFT IT Band has been "wonky" since last Oct & the fact that I sprained my right ankle really bad in May of '09 by rolling it off the front porch. (Yes, bad sprains can haunt you for years.)
I can run, though....with a wrap looking thing on my ankle. If you watch football, Roethlisberger had to wear one the last few games he played. You can run in them just fine. The trick is getting them snug enough but not too snug to allow for the swelling while running long distances.
So, anyway....I signed both Joe & myself up for the Chicago marathon this afternoon. Chances are the weather will be too hot for either of us to run that well but we're going. We're finally crossing it off our list. So, here's to some HOT, HUMID Tennessee running this summer/early Fall. Cheers!!

Chicago Marathon
Today at noon registration opened...
I'm waiting until after Dr. Holmes looks at my MRI scans tomorrow.
So many what ifs, whens, maybes with signing up for a marathon.
You don't want to sign up, get injured, & lose your $ but that's the chance you take every time.
I've lost $ on the Birmingham, AL Mercedes marathon, which was only $55 at the time due a horrific sinus infection (plus I didn't know I already had the tibia stress fracture).
I lost around $30 on a bike ride I couldn't attend but as long as the $ goes to charity somewhere I'm ok with it...disappointed but ok. Luckily, I think that's all I've ever DNS.
This morning: ab ripper this morning & P90X Stretch this afternoon.
Tomorrow: 3 miles in the morning, hopefully, & Jillian Michael's yoga in the afternoon.

11 Random Things
Ok, ok, if this had come to me via a "forward" in email, I would have deleted it but I was tagged by TX Runner Girl so I'm answering here. ;-)
HERE ARE THE RULES...
Post these rules.
You must post 11 random things about yourself.
Answer the questions set for you in your tagger's post.
Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
Go to their blogs and tell them you’ve tagged them
No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this." You legitimately have to tag 11 people! Sorry, I don't know 11 Runners who blog! ;-(
1. Where is the most unique place you've gone running?
Downtown Ansbach Germany, 1990...my ex husband & I would jog around town, window shop, & then stop at a cafe to eat black forrest cake. That's when I knew I wouldn't die if I ran more than a mile & I LOVED it!
2. What is your favorite pre-race meal and why?
Peanut butter & jelly sandwich
3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I wish I were going to the summer Olympics in London. My friend, Hannah & I had a short lived little pipe dream of saving up for that trip but "life" happened & boy, time just flew!
4. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Probably a teacher...I did teach pre-school in Germany for the Dept of Defense. I also spent a few years running an afterschool program at East Middle School. (My Bachelor's degree is made up of mostly education related courses.)
5. Did you become what you wanted to be as a kid? What do you do?
No, but I'm A OK with that. ha! I work in a support position in Operations at the headquarters of a major "corrections" company in Nashville.
6. What is the scariest thing you've ever done?
I'm scared to death of heights so walking out on the 30 Rock building & the Empire State building in NYC were frightening to me.
7. If you won the lottery, what would be the 1st thing you would buy?
I wouldn't buy anything until I paid off everything we owe (which isn't really much), got my mom, & both sisters out of debt, etc... I guess I'd buy a new Honda CR-V. ;-P
8. If you could have one super power, what would it be?
To never get another running injury EVER...
9. Fill in the blank - I am a closet __watcher of "Say Yes to the Dress" & the Kardashians__ fan. I've posted about "Say Yes to the Dress" before but the other....well, I'm just ashamed. It's like watching a train wreck! If there's nothing on, I watch it...
10. Favorite place that you've traveled to? Why?
It's no secret....I could go to NYC every 6 months & never tire of it. I would see every square inch of it, every museum, every corner, etc.....& NEVER get tired of it.
11. What celebrity would you like to hang out with and why?
Katherine Switzer because she's such a pioneer in women's running
OR Lance Armstrong...OR Peyton Manning....Meb Keflezighi....I could go on & on...
Since I don't know 11 runner with blogs that I can tag, I'll just tag Old Man, 26.2 before I turn 40...Bring It!, & Impossible is Nothing.
Your questions are below:
1. How old were you when you started running?
2. What motivated you to start running?
3. Do you ever catch any flack from friends/family if you look at your running schedule before you say "Yes" to plans. (I have!)
4. If $ were no problem, what race would you love to do, where & why?
5. What is the biggest mistake you've ever done in a race?
6. If you were told you had to choose between cake & ice cream OR running, which would you choose & why? (I would choose running but I'd be depressed over no cake & ice cream for the rest of my life.)
7. Which do you prefer, running in groups or alone? (I LOVE GROUPS, but sometimes being alone is so very welcomed!)
8. Which celebrity would you run with living or dead?
9. If you've completed a marathon, how long do you typically wait to run again?
10. Which seasons are your favorite & least favorite to run? (summer really sucks here!)
11. What is your favorite sport to participate/watch other than track/running related sports?

Ahhh, relief.....
I cannot say enough GOOD things about my new chiropractor & the massage therapist there.
I had my first appt with the therapist yesterday. He does pressure point therapy.
When he found the sore spot on my lower back to the right & pressed yesterday, he managed to release the right, very tight calf muscle. Crazy, huh? He massaged my ankle, worked the IT Band, etc... Let me tell you, I jumped out of bed this morning & ran my little 4.25 mile route this morning feeling GREAT. It was slow but I had no issues with soreness this morning like I've had for the last few weeks.
I'm still going to keep the appt with the MRI since Dr. Holmes office managed to get me an appt today. (and I'll see the results with him on Thursday) Needless to say, I feel better.
I did find out that Chicago took 31 days to sell out last year. I'm going to wait till the weekend to register. I'll have all my paranoia gone by then, I hope! :-)

no patience....
So, rather than wait another week, my patience has run out. This morning, my right ankle/back of calf woke me at 2:38am. I almost got up to ice it but was too lazy tired. This is such an inconsistent ache that it's driving me nuts. If it's gonna hurt, I wish it would just hurt ALL THE TIME. (It felt fine Sat & felt ok Sun) So, I'm trying to get an MRI scheduled, if anything just to relieve the paranoia of it all. This is especially stressful since I know I'm going to go ahead & register for Chicago on Wednesday. Wonder if I'll lose 100% of my $$$ if I can't run it. If that's the case, I'll crawl that thing....6 1/2 hour time limit, ha! Piece of cake! I'd probably stop & eat cake too & still finish in 6 1/2. (I always think about about the worst case scenario.)
So, I just thought I would throw a little more paranoia out there on the training.
How's the training going? Who knows!
Today: I'm going to the chiropractor after work & then doing Jillian Michael's yoga workout #1. (#1 always makes my arms scream!)
Tomorrow: I may run, I may not...I'm supposed to do 4 miles. I'd love to get up & get it done before work.
On another note, saw "One for the Money". It was sort of funny to watch this movie & try to remember what was going to happen next. It's been nearly 2 yrs since I read the book, I think... I don't care what anyone says, I think Katherine Heigl nailed "Stephanie Plum". ;-)

the weekend...
Saturday: 5 miles in PW. I had never been to this area of the park or at least I don't remember it.... Two major hills the first 2.25 & mostly down hill with some areas of slight uphill coming back....roughly 4.6 miles. I added .4 around the parking lot cooling down. Overall pace was 9:34. I immediately went to the picnic table & lifted the left leg up to do the yoga "pigeon" move. LOL! I did the right leg & spent some time stretching the calves. Hopped in the car for some Starbucks. When I got home, I knew I was feeling good enough to head to the 'boro & the 'homa. I iced & put the Voltaren creme on the right ankle/side of shin. I actually cracked the ankle when I was stretching the quad. I used to do that all the time after getting off the spin bike. Low & behold the ankle felt GREAT after that. I feel pretty good after only 2 chiropractor visits. Hard to explain but when I went out for 3 miles today, I could tell...I felt a lot more loose & relaxed. (I'd like to kick myself for not going to the chiropractor last Fall!!!)
Today: ab ripper, IT Band exercises, 5 lb free weight routine for the arms, & 3 recovery miles that ended up being faster than they probably should have....9:55 pace. (nope, didn't wear heart rate monitor)
The weekend has been good & now Joe's home & we're going to see "One for the Money". The movie about the 1st "Plum series" book by Janet Evanovich! Yes, it's finally out. I HAVE to see it today since Cheryl gave it great reviews via email to me today. ha!

re-alignment
I cannot say enough good things about my chiropractor in my 'hood. I wish I would have discovered him last year!!! He's more technical than my last two chiros. He explains everything. He listens & calls you & tells you why things don't feel right. He's very established. He had an office downtown Nashville for around 9 yrs...moved to our 'hood about 4 yrs ago. He lives right up the road from us. ha!
So, tomorrow will be interesting with the right ankle/side & back of calf. Dr. Holmes suspects a tendon injury/tendon strain. He told me not to run until Saturday & to take it easy on the pace. Guess I'll be running 5 very cautious miles in the morning. ;-P
I'm so tempted to head to the 'homa tomorrow after I run it's not even funny. I need to give pics of the boys to the grandparents, see my other sis, & do some shopping in the 'boro. Or I may just "veg" here. The beauty of having a couple of days alone. ;-)

TGIThursday! ;-P
I'm spending lots of time with Jillian this week (yoga & shred) & with Tony (ab ripper & XStretch).
As for the right ankle/side of shin/back of calf area….it is better than it was on Monday & Tuesday.
I’m following the docs orders not to run until Saturday. I hate missing training runs but at least we're still VERY early in this schedule for it not to matter too much.
I’m blaming the concrete sidewalks & me pushing the pace down the last ½ mile or so last Saturday for this set back. I'm also blaming the IT Band situation. Overcompensating for it didn't do the right leg any favors. I was just trying to finish strong & I felt so GOOD during that little four miler.
I will say that I like the chiropractor in our 'hood. He's well established & in only one visit, I feel like he loosened the left side of me a great deal. I'm going back on Friday. ;-)
I'll be by myself this weekend until about noon on Sunday since Joe's flying to MI for his 93 yr old grannie's funeral. (They've been expecting the call for some time now.)
A little alone time will do me some good. ;-)

more injury paranoia...
The last 3 nights, I've felt my right calf/side of ankle swelling at night...it has woke me up, too. NOT good!
So, this morning I called Dr. Holmes & got in right away. He didn't see anything on the X-Ray but of course, they can't see everything on X-Ray's either. I'm over-compensating for the IT Band & I know it's not doing the right leg/ankle/foot any favors. I'm to apply my Voltaren creme 3-4X a day until it calms down. Of course stretch which is what I'm already doing anyway, & ice it. If it's still swelling 2 weeks from now, I'm to call him & he'll schedule an MRI. Ahh, the woes of loving to run & not having a neutral stride at all. ;-(
Anyway, the 4 miler isn't going to happen today & the little 2 miler on Thursday isn't going to happen. He gave me the "ok" to go do the 5 mile training run with the group on Saturday, though. ;-)
Yesterday's workout: Jillian Michael's shred & P90X Stretch
Today: I did ab ripper, stretched, & did IT Band exercises.
Let's face it, with me getting a filling replaced at the dentist this afternoon & then right after that I'm going to the chiropractor...that 4 miler just wasn't going to happen today anyway.
April is still a ways off so I refuse to stress over this latest set back.
AND I will go ahead and register both Joe & myself for the Chicago marathon on Feb 1st at noon!
What are my expectations for the Carmel, IN 1/2?
Have fun & possibly do it under 2 hrs.
(NO, I do not see me getting a PR which would be under 1:51:25)
What are my expectations for the CMM 1/2?
Finally go sub-2 on that hilly, hot CMM 1/2 course.
(Closest I've ever come was 2004 with 2:01:46 but I had NOT hill trained at all.)
What are my expecations for the Chicago 2012 marathon?
If it's 65 degrees or higher at the start then I'll do good to keep the death march under 5 hrs.
If it's semi-perfect weather, I want a PR.....so anything under 4:17:11 would be nice.
(yeah, I know I'm hoping for Chicago to have perfect marathon weather...laugh with me! I should ONLY be hoping I don't get injured!)
On a side note: Joe will most likely lose his 93 year old grandma any day now. She's had alzhiemers for quite some time. So, he'll likely be heading to MI in the next few days. ;-(

So, he'll likely be heading to MI in the next few days. ;-(

planning....
I just put together my Chicago marathon training schedule. As of now, I'm only running 4 days a week. I know my body well enough now that it doesn't respond to high mileage. If you've been reading this blog a while, you know that the more I run the more I get injured. I just can't allow that this year.
Of course, I know it will get tweaked like crazy again & again as I get closer & closer to October.
IT Band assessment today....soreness on the right side of my right ankle because I know I'm overcompensating for the Left IT Band issues right now. Let's hope this soreness isn't anything else other than that. I'm rubbing Voltaren cream on it when I think about it. I need to ice it at night this week, too.
I'm thinking that it might be a good time to get fitted again for new running shoes. Try something different other than Brooks Adrenaline or Saucony Omni Progrid. These are stability shoes, of course, so I'm hoping to try some stability asics.
On another note....I'm not a "political person" but wow, the Republicans really are hurting for candidates this time around. I don't like any of them, really. I would rather vote for Obama than Gingrich any day. Gingrich gives me the creeps, always has.... Ron Paul had my vote until I heard he's supposedly questioned our killing of Osama. Sorry but I don't agree, Mr. Paul. Eh well, this should make for some interesting TV if it doesn't put us all to sleep first. ha!
Oh & by the way, GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!
How sweet it is that Eli will play in the Super Bowl in "Big Brothers" house. ;-P

yadda, yadda.....
Not much to say so I'll keep this short....or maybe not...
After yesterday's group run, I took advantage of the free consultation with the physical therapists provided for us. I was probably the first one in there. LOL! The PT said, "ahhh, IT Band injuries are a runner's nightmare." Umm, yes, that and a tibia stress fracture. She basically told me that I'm running on one leg. LOL! She showed me an exercise that I'm already doing & a couple of others that haven't yet been prescribed to me. I hope they don't call me to try to get me to come to their office. I do admit that the last week or so I've slacked off on the IT Band exercises but not enough to really set myself back. I have really slacked on wearing the heart rate monitor lately but I sure didn't want to pack that thing to use in Texas. Bleh..with the short little runs I did, it would have been more trouble than it's worth to me.
I did wear it today on my slow, little 3 mile recovery run. Kept it in zone 3 & ran an 11:34 pace. (Keep in mind, I never run flat anywhere in this 'hood...) This run was supposed to happen tomorrow but with the storms that are supposedly coming through tonight & the craptastic weather tomorrow, I moved it. I also did ab ripper, stretched, & worked with my 5 lb free weights. The next run on the schedule is supposed to be Tuesday but I have to get a filling replaced after work, then go to the chiropractor. I may move that 4 miler to Wednesday. We only have 2 miles on our training schedule for Thursday so that's VERY doable. Who knows I may go ahead and do the 4 miles tomorrow after work. That's the thing with running so few miles...I feel like I can move them around easily during the week. No where near as structured as a marathon training program right now that's is for sure... That will change next month.
The NRC will have access to the VIP tent at the Carmel, IN marathon/half marathon Apr 21st. That little trip is turning into something really FUN! So far there's about 29-30 people going from the club. We're really looking forward to it. :-) I just hope I'm running on two legs by then. ;-P
Ugh, just looked up from the laptop to see the Raven's kicker miss a 32 yard field goal. I really didn't want to see the Brady bunch go back to the Super Bowl. Grrrr..... If it turns out that the 49 niners are up against the Pats in the Super Bowl, I will totally be watching the game only to see commercials.
I leave you with this commercial they showed during the game today. Cracked me up! Peyton never fails to make me laugh. If he does end up retiring, I sure hope he gets his on tv show. He is crazy funny!

my legs love the run groups...
I've always enjoyed running with groups or even with one person around my pace for that matter.... For the first time in a long time, I felt great during a run, it was effortless, light, & just overall enjoyable. We did just 4 miles. My pace was 9:22 but that's due to the two stops for the redlights which probably added just over a minute to our overall time. I stuck with the mid-range sub 2 hour group, David's group. Apparently, since the sub 2 hour group is so big, they've decided to divide it into 3 groups. (maybe less likely for accidents with less people running together) I suspect the faster group is probably for those that run around a 1:47-1:50 half. The group I'm in may be running around a 1:50-1:56. Then the 3rd is probably just under 2 hours. Not sure...
I ADORE overcast, cold runs where I'm not overheating & I don't have to mess with sunglasses. I started to wear a short sleeve tech shirt, shorts, long compression socks but they gave us our shirts today. So, I threw the long sleeve on since the temp dropped something like 3-5 degrees between about 6:10am & 7:00am. Wow! I think it was around 38 degrees when we started. Shorts, long sleeve tech shirt, & compression socks up to my knees & gloves were the perfect choice for me. Everyone is different. I'm the type that gets cold easily just sitting around but running...give me COLD any day.
Joe was supposed to meet up with some folks from the NRC at a park off Concord but he ended up running 4.5 by himself...they ran too late for him to start with them. We then met up with some other Nolensville run clubers for breakfast. Perfect way to get the morning started.
Now it's time for a short nap & then we're heading downtown for the Vandy vs Miss State basketball game at Memorial. Go Dores!

time for the Chiropractor...
Thursday: ab ripper AM & 3 miles PM (10:03 pace)
Something is just feeling off in the hip area so I've made an appt for Tues at the chiropractor in our 'hood.
Yes, we have EVERYTHING in this neighborhood. (dentist, chiropractor, coffee shop, yogurt shop, bookstore, sports bar, mini-convenience mart, dog salon, The Cake Project,... you name it!)
I've been doing the IT Band strengthening exercises but they're NOT working that well.
So, plan B is a chiropractor....
Am I in pain? Not really but when I do run even the little runs that we're doing on this schedule, something just feels off.... When I do certain yoga poses, I have almost no balance anymore.
I thought I needed rest & I did but this is ridiculous. Maybe with a few adjustments, the hip will get realigned, adjusted, etc....I used to go to a chiropractor pretty regularly up until about 2 yrs ago & never had this issue then or ever. Something's gotta give.....
Today: Jillian Michael's yoga workout #2 this morning....grocery shopping after work today...
Tomorrow: Will rejoin the group for our 4 miler in the morning & then eat breakfast with Joe & the NRC.
Sunday: 3 miles & ab ripper.....(I only do ab ripper 3X a week but let me tell you, it works! I have the lines on my core to prove it...you'd think my hips would be stronger! ha!)
As for the rest of our weekend....football. Go Giants!!!!
I think the Manning's need a 3rd Super Bowl ring!

catching up...with the work out posting
Last Thursday: 20 minutes Jillian Michael's shred & ab ripper P90X
Friday: if you count walking two overweight beagles for maybe 30 minutes & screaming my head off at a high school basketball game as exercise then that's what I did...LOL! (Austin is the Captain of the team. They won & I know I didn't embarrass him too much since he was disappointed that I'd be leaving before his Tuesday night game. ha!)
Saturday: I got in my 4 mile run per the 1/2 mary training schedule. (Did it in between Avery's basketball tournament games at the middle school. That boy sure can play some basketball. Everytime he scored, I screamed as if I was at LP Field. I was the loudest person in there but I think he liked it. ha!) The pace for the piddly 3 miles was only 9:24 so I know I wasn't running the 1/2 mary sub-2 hr pace. Umm, my excuses...I was running alone (I run faster in groups), there was some cross wind that annoyed me, & my sister's 'hood has long, slow inclines...unlike our massive hills here. I'll take the long, slow inclines any day but they still made me slow, especially since I had wind resistance. I also walked the dogs afterwards about 2 miles as my cool down. ha!
Sunday: I wasn't supposed to run but I decided to go out for just 2.25 with some speed thrown into it.....speed, recovery, speed, recovery...then I walked the dogs another 2.25 miles again to cool down. Those dogs LOVED it! ;-) I know they're missing me right now. ;-P
Monday: I did the prescribed 3 miles on the schedule at a 9:29 pace. I think the high Mountain Cedar in the air caught up with me. Allergies! The speed & lack of yoga/stretching also didn't help.
Tuesday: 3 miles at a 10:14 pace...see excuses above. ha! I also did Ab Ripper & some much needed stretching.
Today: I did almost all of the P90X Stretch this morning & I plan to finish it as soon as I get home then I'll do Jillian Michael's yoga workout #1 (it really works the arms..plus I will probably use my free weights)

I love Texas!
There are a lot of things I love about Texas. Living 45 minutes from Waco during the David Karesh fiasco wasn't one of them & living outside of Ft. Hood for 2.5 yr was definitely NOT one of them. ha!
Top 10 Things I LOVE about Texas
1. Avery (my 13 yr old nephew)
2. Austin (my 16 yr old nephew)
3. my sis (of course!)
4. the fact that I met my GREAT friend, Cheryl, there when I was a "military wife" back in the day...
5. two bloggers I follow...
6. the Texans (I'm tired of seeing them fall short...I would LOVE to see them win a Super Bowl.)
7. the food, Good Lord, the food!
8. the sports there....two NFL teams, three NBA teams, two major league teams, & one hockey team
9. Austin, Texas....I would LOVE to retire there some day.
10. And last but not least....it reminds me a lot of Tennessee in a lot of ways. People are friendly, have a southern kinda drawl that's very welcoming...Texas has a big "heart". It's like a 2nd home in my heart.
So, the work out yesterday...
The prescribed 2 miles on the training schedule was 2.52 for me at a 10:36 pace.
I tried to keep it super slow & within a very relaxed heart rate range even though I didn't wear the heart rate monitor. (today is the last day on antibiotics, let's hope the heart rate goes back to normal!) I also did Jillian Michael's yoga too. It's been a while since I did her yoga. She kicked my butt.
Today, I did ab ripper P90X & then Jillian Michael's shred dvd. Altogether only a 35-40 minute workout but she kicked my ass again.
Friday: will be nothing....
Saturday: will most likely be nothing... 4 miler on the schedule will be moved to Sunday.
(Avery has a basketball tournament & I will be screaming till I'm hoarse Saturday.)
My 3 miles on the schedule for Monday will happen on Monday. I fly back Monday afternoon.
I hope everyone's weekend is GREAT. Happy Martin Luther King weekend, yall!

this, that, & other things....
Yesterday: Jillian Michael's yoga workout #1 & 5 lb free weights
(I did a lot of extra stretching/pilates moves & IT Band exercises so this workout was an 1 hr 15 minutes long.)
Today: 3 miles before work....yes, I finally got outside before work again...1st time since November.
Pace 9:56 with a lot of hills the first mile. (I'm starting to miss the longer runs right now in a bad way.)
This afternoon I will do ab ripper P90X, laundry, & pack for San Antonio.
I plan to get lots of beagle love & I plan to scream my head off at the boys basketball games.
(gotta live up to the crazy Aunt Lisa reputation!)
Well, it's offical, we're going to FL for the kid's Spring break.
(Universal Studios, Disney's Hollywood Studios, & the beach. I will have to figure out how to get 8 miles in while we're there.)
Joe bought the airline tickets & is booking the room.
It's a Wed through Sun trip. 3 days off from work.
So far, I'm planning to take 5 days off in April.
I'm trying to strategically plan my 18 days off so I don't lose any of it at the end of the year. ;-)
Oh and did I mention we already have our hotel booked for Chicago marathon weekend?
No grass grows under our shoes....
As far as my latest "read" I've got to get back in the mood of reading again.
I've sort of taken a sabbatical from it lately.
I have been waiting 2 yrs to see this movie. LOVED THE BOOK!

I'm ALWAYS for the underdog....
Months ago when the Tebow haters all came out & people started making fun of him for praying on the sidelines, I told my husband, "I hope the Broncos make it to the playoffs & win." Fast forward to today.
I'm chewing nails, trying not to watch, jumping up & down in the living room like an idiot. I've prayed for Tim Tebow & been totally blown away at his unwaivering faith. He's the kid that's looking for the silver lining, the kid that doesn't give up, the kid that prays, & talks openly about his faith. Good for him!
So, even though it's not been too pretty at times, I was glad he made it to the play offs. That division sucks big time so it really wasn't that big of a stretch for the Broncos to get there. But today, after making the statement months ago that I wanted them to win a play off game to quiet the haters....Tebow made my day! I know Brady & company will probably eat them for lunch next week but this week it's still Tebow Time! ;-)

Sunday's shorty little run
I was actually supposed to do this run tomorrow but Monday's are typically my yoga/stretch and/or weight days. The schedule had 2 miles on it, which to me is almost not worth getting dressed for but it's the "plan". I'm sticking as close to this "plan" as I can. Since I decided to wear the heart rate monitor, I knew it would be SUPER slow in zone 3. (I chose the mid-range zone for no particular reason.) I added 1/2 a mile to it just to make it a little more worth my time. 2.5 miles at an 11:46 pace.
(antibiotics + mucinex d = heart rate off the charts!)
I actually noticed during ab ripper that my heart rate was crazy. I always try to remember to do 10 boy push ups after ab ripper. When I was doing them, I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest. Wow! I cannot wait to get off these meds!
Tomorrow's plan is Jillian Michael's yoga workout #1 & my free weights.
How 'bout those Texans?! I am a bit bummed the Lions didn't get past the Saints but that was totally expected. The Saints have WAY more discipline & experience than the Lions. Maybe next year...
Our Spring break plans for florida are still in the talking/planning stages... The more I think about it the more I'm hoping the kids decide they don't want to go. Am I bad or what? They've done Disney to death & the only thing they've not done is Universal. Guess Joe will be deciding next weekend what we'll end up doing. I will be knee deep in basketball games with my sister & her family. Austin has his high school game friday night & Avery has two games Saturday. Such is my sister's life.....they live & breathe Texas school sports.

1st training run for Carmel, Indiana & Country Music 1/2 marathons
I was a little apprehensive about running the first training run, which was only 3 miles. With the combo of mucinex D & antibiotics in my body, I just felt "weird". Drug fog, maybe?
The tinsy bit of rain was very welcoming to me since it was 56 degrees at 5am when I woke up. So many folks overdressed but I had to remind myself that the store was full of 1st timers. It's January but at least it wasn't snowing or icy. I was thrilled to see that David H. was the sub-2 hour pace leader. (seems like we had the biggest group out of the 500+ runners that were inside/outside the store) I told him I would probably do good to hold onto a 10 minute pace & he said we would probably do a 9:30 or so pace. So, I was nervous. I was just going to go with it & see what happened. We started out slow & then I heard people screaming David's name around the 1/2 mile mark. Apparently, a gal towards the back of our group slammed into a pole & hit her head. An ambulance was called. I heard it looked pretty bad. David had the rest of us go on & finish the run. Of course the pace picked up. ha!
Overall, I had 3.26 miles at a 9:19 pace. We did have a few small hills & some of it was on concrete sidewalks so I'm ok with that pace all things considering. I then did a few errands & called Joe who had run with the NRC. I met them for breakfast at Mama's Javas in Nolensville. (Much talk about the Carmel, IN race the entire club seems to be doing & Ragnar 2012 plans.)
We just booked our hotel for Chicago the weekend of the marathon so now we just have to wait till noon Feb 1st to register. I have to say I'm getting excited about the plans we have in place so far for 2012.
I will be missing the group run next Saturday due to my San Antonio trip, then I'll miss it again Tom King weekend, & the weekend of the Carmel, IN race. I'll be ok, though. I'll make sure I get everything in....it's just a half marathon.... ;-)
Cheers to the wildcard weekend match ups! Hot wings, anyone?
David had the rest of us go on & finish the run. ....and the answer is.....
I hear a drum roll...........
Chicago (our Fall marathon of 2012) Registration opens Feb 1st.
Yeah, I know, if I'm injured, I can't downgrade to a 1/2 marathon.
With Detroit, I could register for the full but if I arrived there with some stupid injury, I could switch to the 1/2.
We discussed it off & on during the holidays & even had Joey in the floor flipping a coin at one point.
Really it's more Joe than myself that chose & that's ok. I want to do both eventually.
Yes, there's the weather issue & from what I've heard the last 1/2 of it is in the sun.
I wish they'd move the start time to like 5:30 or even 6:00am. ha!
At least when we do the strider's training runs this summer/early Fall, we'll be right on track for this one.
The plan is to run flat the weekends that we don't run with the striders & that will have to be in Shelby park.
The only flat park I know of in the area. ha!
If I can run through the heat of the summer in TN then hopefully, I can make it through the heat of Chicago on Oct 7th.

signs of "life"
I'm feeling soooo very mucho betta!
I bought the mucininex D that you have to sign for, show ID, etc....
I'm thinking that stuff has finally released the painful sinus pressure. Who knows!?
I'm sure the antibiotics are in my system too. Got to get the water in or I'll end up dehydrated!
Today: I finally got a work out in!! Whoopie! 3 miles at a 10 minute pace & P90X ab ripper
Tomorrow: I'm hoping to get some yoga in either before or after work.
Saturday: Is the 1st "official" training run at Fleet Feet. 3 little miles.... ;-)

Monday's downhill spiral (I wish I were talking about a run...)
On Monday, I went into work early & got out fairly quickly but decided to drive my droopy self to a "Walk In Clinic" for antibiotics. When I got home, I ate, took the first dose, & headed to bed. From 4:30pm Monday until early this morning at 5:00am, I barely moved. I finally got my pajama day but it was a "sick in pajamas" kinda day. The symptoms that I've been having for weeks finally turned into a full blow sinus infection. (first one in nearly a year!) Those bring me to my knees, BIG TIME! So, needless to say, I've not worked out at all since I did that little 2 miler on Sunday. I will take a stab at ab ripper when I get home today but I'm taking it easy the rest of the week. I was supposed to do a 3 miler yesterday but I'll do it Thursday & delete the other 2 miler off my schedule. It's not like I'm a novice at this & never run before, ya know.... (Since the medal organization project started, I've counted 16 half marathon finisher medals.)
What a way to start the very first week of 2012 & the very first week of the training I've paid for....ha!
Saturday's little 3 miler with the group should be very interesting. Of course I know I won't be able to keep up with the 2 hour pace group. I'm not even going to try. I'll drop back with the 2:15 group for sure. I'm making myself go since, number 1, I paid for it, & number 2, I'll miss next weekends group run on the 14th.
San Antonio, I cannot wait to get there! I finally get to watch my 16 yr old nephew play high school basketball & my 13 yr old nephew play middle school basketball.

Hello, January 2012
Friday evening, I ran 5 miles with Kim C. in Manchester. Amazing that I did it at all after a really stressful day, (worked longer than I should've, 15 mins late for my hair appt in the 'homa, & a blown tire early that morning,...don't ask!). I NEEDED the "run therapy" after my day, trust me. It was a 10:10 pace but we chatted the entire way. She let me "vent" bless her heart. Gena, who cut my hair had let me "vent" & cousin, Pam had let me "vent" earlier in the day. Anyway, I count my blessings that I have these wonderful folks in my life. I truly am blessed beyond belief. Makes the far & few bad days seem "notsobad" at all. ;-)
Saturday, we had plans to head to the 'boro for New Years Eve to "catch up" with the Heusers. After finding out Hannah was still in Evansville taking care of her grandpa, I chose to drive there. I sent Joe & the kids to the 'boro to hang with Jeff, his mom, & his daughter. (Hannah's grandpa had fallen earlier in the week & had been in bad shape.) A road trip to have some "me" time needed to happen so a "rest" day in the Honda for 3 hours was what I did Saturday morning. I spent New Years Eve having girl talk in her grandparents house in the middle of BFE. No internet, no cable, etc...just plain ole girl talk. I NEEDED it & so did Hannah.
Today, I drove back listening to talk radio & then the first quarter of the Titans game on the radio.
They literally squeaked a win out of their butts so now we're becoming Ravens fans in hopes they win so the Titans can squeak into the playoffs. LOL!
I started my first day of the new year with one of the greatest friends I've ever had, drove 3 hours home, watched some football with my husband & step kids, & completed my 1st "offical training run" of the new schedule. (2 miles at a 10;20 pace LOL!) It was actually supposed to happen tomorrow but I'm working & don't want to run in 34 degree weather in the dark. (I still have a bit of a head cold!) Yep, I'm working tomorrow & floating my New Years holiday to the 13th for my San Antonio trip. I still say I should get sister of the year for flying on Friday the 13th to see Deb!
As for "Resolutions"...I don't really have any. I don't care if I lose weight, get another PR, eat healthier, or find a way to smooth out any wrinkles. It's not that I'm not goal driven, I am to a certain extent but you're not going to find me declaring over & over again what I'm going to do then coming up with massive excuses as to why I didn't do them this year. We've ALL been guilty of that. This year will be more about what I want to do differently for myself & others. I want to let things "roll off my back" more, not be the one who stresses the most when others clearly don't care as much, & just be myself. If I have any clear goals at all, it will be to just "let things be". I can't control everything all the time so in 2012, I'll just stop trying to do the impossible & leave some things in God's hands. ;-) I plan to put in the hard work for what I want & what I want for others, don't get wrong. As I get older I care less about what others think, gossip about, etc... What I want is for the people who mean the most to me, who truly care about me, & who are my true friends to just be happy. Nuff said...
I hope everyone had a safe New Years Eve & that everyone did something wonderful today that made them happy. 2012.....bring it on! I will leave you with a picture below from past years goals...some that came up short & some that exceeded my expectations. (A little project I'm working on to organize finisher medals & age group awards.)
