15 magically became 16.5....huh???

Ok, so I'm too cheap right now to upgrade my garmin. Here I am justifying paying a mint for Colts tickets and I really do need to be buying a newer garmin. Ummm, which is more important? Watching the Super Bowl winners play the "hungry for another victory" Titans in the lower level of LP Field or really knowing for sure to the exact mile what I'm running? ha ha!!! Hard decision since I do remember being there in the cold last December watching Rob Bironos kick that 60 yd field goal. I almost cried because the curse had ended. The Titans managed to beat the unbeatable Colts but Peyton has his ring and all ended well last year. I'm a total freak show when it comes to football. Let's hope little ole Eric Ainge can play well with his broken pinkie tomorrow night in CA.

Ok back to my 15 miles which turned into 16.5 according to my garmin. My signal was weak with the overcast skies and fog. Great running weather for a change but the garmin did lose it's signal 4-5 times by the first 5 or so miles, but just for a few seconds each time. To be on the conservative side, I think I'll log 15.5 miles on my marathonguide.com log. I still feel that the 13 miler I did a few weeks ago was off so this will make me feel better about that. :) My route consisted of a figure 8 in my neighborhood and then I headed out to hwy 55 down past Waggoner and the Armory towards Gondola. I turned and went to Lincoln st and then cut over to my normal running routes in the East Middle area. I went around the school and then over to Tara Estates. I looped that area 2Xs and then headed to Macon Manor for 2 loops and then back down to the school and then over to Lincoln basically reversing what I ran earlier. I had mapped this route out on the USATF website and it was supposed to be 15:14 but it had a lot of straight lines so I'm allowing for that also. I know I got in over 15 simply because my legs are screaming it right now.

Well, I think to get the soreness out of my legs, I'll go push mow the lawn some before the rain comes in. Looking forward to white water rafting tomorrow and the Franklin Classic 10k on Monday. :)

August running sucks in TN

I have a myspace page but this seemed interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. I feel I need focus right now in my training and not many people understand it, especially on myspace. :)

I have been running off and on since my early 20's. I was married then and living overseas and it was a great way to see Europe (on foot). Never did any racing back then but we did volksmarching and got prizes at the end. My ex loved the beer at the end the best, though. :) After my divorce, I picked the running thing up a notch or two. I started increasing mileage and then I starting thinking, "Why not do a race or two?" Then the obsession began. I couldn't swear to it but I think my first official race was a 10k in 2002. It was a tough state park series race at Tim's Ford. The hills kicked my butt and I remember telling the boyfriend at the time that I really needed to stay with the shorter distances. ha! (famous last words) Funny how when the pain is gone, you forget and you go for more, then you improve, and then you go for even more the next time. Running truly is a drug.

So, here I am off the beaten path blogging about my obsession. I have an old garmin so let's hope it doesn't lose it's signal here. :P

I'm in the first few weeks of a marathon training program. Until now, I had never really followed a "plan", but it's time to get serious. I'm 40 and I need a 3:50:59 or better to go to Boston. The best I've ever done in a marathon is 4:17:11 in '06. I was plagued with injuries the latter part of '06 and I'm just now really starting to feel like I can run through anything. Injuries are all but totally gone but I'm ok. I've had plantar fascittis and shin pain on my left shin. I've learned the importance of stretching and changing the type of shoes I wear (if needed) from year to year. I've gone from neutral, to motion control, to stability. Stability seems to be the key for me these days. My strides are longer, my feet are longer, and I am faster. The last 5 yrs have seen major changes in me in aspects of my life but my feet have changed the most. :P

So, I'll back up a bit. I'm doing a 15 mile training run in the am. I'm taking a 4 day weekend since it's Labor day weekend. Last night I ran 5 hilly miles with Carla and Chris Bloom. Both are training for the Music City Half. I'm targeting that race along with the Murfreesboro Half, possibly the Team Nashville Half, and Rocket City. I may throw in some shorter races, too. Last night was supposed to be a recovery run since Tuesday night was 10 miles. Since my garmin didn't work at the lake, I'm guessing I ran under 10 min miles which is ok for recovery.

Hopefully, I'll keep up with this better than I do my myspace. :)

Happy running.....be safe.
