Busy Monday in front of busy New Years week.
I'm now on daily migraine meds so we'll see how that goes...
I've gained 4 lbs over the holidays & judging by how my sports bras fit, I know where most of it went. Yikes, move over Pamela Anderson & Dolly Parton. These 4 lbs are coming off SOON!
I got a cute pre-lit 4 ft tree today for $12.50, a very ugly fish ornament that I love, & several other Christmas decor on sale. I also got 1,000 thread count sheets for $70.00. Joe will be happy since his bedding makes mine look like & feel like crap. :P I'm due for another comforter set. The Tommy Hilfiger Hula girl stuff is fading. I love it but it's got to go in the new year.
Sunday, I did the usual 65 min on the elliptical & a few weight machines. I got tied up doing the wash & unpacking.
This afternoon, I did a 30 min slow walk while talking to Terri, 65 mins on the elliptical, some yoga ball crunches, free weights, & weight machines.
Tomorrow morning, I hope to do more of the same...absolutely NO running this week or next. Jan 5th, I hope to hit the spinning again with a vengeance. I have missed spin class!
FYI, I'm loving this "Walk this Way" book! Did you know that the drum beats you hear on the front of "Living on the Edge" are the beats off a drum that Steven Tyler stole from his high school when they kicked him out? He kept the drum all these years. Cool!

Sad to leave but happy to be back...
Tues was the coldest day there with a high of 47. It was also a bit rainy. I walked the dogs to the school behind my sister's house.
We all headed to the movie theater in the afternoon for "Bedtime Stories" with Adam Sandler. It was cute. If you have kids, they'll like it. I'm looking forward to seeing Will Smith's "7 pounds" this week.
Fri, San Antonio had a record high of 83 degrees & I felt it when I took the dogs out for 3.3 miles of more jogging/walking/sniffing. When we got back Toby drank a ton of water & laid on the cool tile kitchen floor as if he were dying. I got Mark's free weights & worked on my arms. I did some standing squats that I felt on Sat & I did some crunches on the floor. Our day included more wii & some after Christmas shopping before heading to the Riverwalk. As many times as I've been to San Antonio, I had never been inside the Alamo. It was cool & it sort of reminded me a bit of Nashboro downtown on the river. They didn't allow photos of the inside but we saw some cool Davy Crockett stuff. Avery patiently waiting in line. He's such a good boy. Unfortunately, he's inherited the sinus/allergy problems.
The Smiths (yes, Deb married one she wanted to keep a long time. ha!) I've said it a million times, the best thing she ever did was join the Air Force. She got out after Avery was born & became a federal employee. Mark is a retired communications officer & federal employee now. They timed all this just right with the boys ages. NO MORE moving around. My 6 ft 2 in brother in law has a 13 yr old almost as tall as him. Austin also wears a size 11 shoe. To say he plays basketball very well would be an understatement.
We had some great mexican food on the river & I drank a margarita. The area was packed afterall, it was 83 degrees & the day after Christmas... Joe sent me this snowy pic from Lake Orion, MI when I told him it was shorts weather in San Antonio. ha! It did finally warm up to 60 degrees yesterday in Michigan. Patti said it literally went from one extreme to another in less than a week. Sledding on friday in Michigan.
Waiting on a patio table.
Boys eating mexican on riverwalk. I finally caught them with their napkins down from their faces. :P
Sat, I got out for a slow 2.64 miles with the dogs for the last time this year. It got tumble weed windy & then hot. A lot of folks were fighting the wind while taking down Christmas decorations. We hung out at the house playing wii, of course, before leaving for the airport. Mark's step father was flying in from Jacksonville as I was flying out. My sister's got another big week ahead of her. It's becoming a tradition for them to host a huge New Years Eve party. They set up board games everywhere in addition to video games. She's got a loft area with ping pong, air hockey, & a pool table. Something tells me there's going to be a lot of wii going on this year.
Overall, no flying problems & no hassles anywhere. It's this good karma that I've been preaching about all year long. ha! I have another VERY busy, fun week ahead. I'm planning to hit the gym hard all week long, though. (We have plans with friends & the Music City Bowl game.) You can bet I'm heading into 2009 with high hopes of an "uncracked shin" & many adventures. Other than New York, not much else is set in stone. Hannah & I will catch up over New Years so I'm sure something will get planned. :) Much like previous years, '08 is ending on a positive note. It's hard to believe that one year ago I was with Hannah & family in Indy at the Titans game. 2008 sure flew by. As I read Hannah's yearly newsletter that she sends with her Christmas cards, I realize out of everyone I know she's had a REALLY busy, stressed year. Even in the face of adversity, that girl smiles right through it. We're all counting our blessings & hoping for a better economically sound 2009. Whatever gets thrown my way, I will handle it just fine. I took this in my Aunt Becky's yard after they picked me up from the airport. Christmas palm trees look cool! :)
Happy Early New Years everyone! Please be safe!

Did you know that "Steel" can crack?
We saw "4 Christmases" with Vince Vaughn & Reese Witherspoon. We laughed our butts off! We then paid a quick visit to cousin, Pam's house. (She registered for the CMM 1/2 yesterday.) :)
I cannot believe Christmas is almost here!
Pre Christmas Weekends are always busy...
Saturday am, Joe & I headed to Harvey's for some treadmill time & Carlates (Carla's pilates class). I had forgotten how hard that class can be & I hope Joe forgives me one day for bringing him in there. :P He has a sore shoulder (from weights earlier in the week) & I managed to cause some puffiness in the shin this week with the running. So, I'm thinking that I'll be walking a lot in San Antonio. I may have set my shin back a little on healing. Who knows...I don't have time to think that much about it. So, Saturday's workout for me was 3.5 miles in 34 mins & 45 mins of pilates. (I have a puff daddy spot on my shin to prove I jogged just a little too much this week.)
In the afternoon, we headed to Elaine's in Lynchburg. She has a 3,800 sq ft cabin on 10.5 acres & it's just beautiful (even in the rain). That woman is the Queen of decorating & Sam is the King of woodworking. One of her Yorkies had 2 little babies last week. So, she's been REAL busy lately. (fyi, that porch is so wide, my civic would fit on it.)
Elaine, Sam, & Woody (a dog she rescued) on the porch. Woody is in heaven living here even though he has to share the love with lots of Yorkies.
I'm nervously holding 2 little Yorkies as Elaine holds their mommy. :) Those two little girls were just a like little squeaky toys. (click on pic to see how sweet they are...)
All 4 of us loaded up for the rainy drive to Scott U's dome house. It's so cool! I had not been out there in probably 2 yrs so it was nice to see what all he had done. I didn't take a lot of photos out there since his website is linked to my blog. He has a link within his website of dome pics only showing the beginning of the building to what it looks like right now outside. He still has quite a bit of work to do in the upper levels but still a very different kind of living that's for sure. I went up to the top level cupola & took these photos looking down. I'm looking from the 3rd level. If you look closely, you see the finished 1st level but the 2nd level still needs the flooring finished.
>
We had a late lunch at "Cattywampus", which is a new restaurant in Lynchburg. You would think it was a little pricy by the way it looked but it wasn't & it was good. I had a salad & some yummy loaded potato soup. :)
Today will consist of packing & football. We hope to head over to Pam's for a while & maybe to the gym. Gotta be prepared for some San Antonio Tex Mex this week! I do NOT envy anyone heading north that's for sure.

Social Run in Tullahoma
Thursday, December 18, 2008
Kicking off the end of a good week...
Last night: weights & crunches only
This morning: 45 min spin class
This afternoon: a social run in the bar district of T-town of approximately 3 miles (if it's not raining cats n' dogs!) Back up plan will be Harvey's treadmill & elliptical.
Yes, it's only Thursday but it feels like Friday. It's been a nice pre-Christmas week. The office has been merry & bright. I bought a Charlie Brown Christmas tree that I love & will try to keep alive. I hope to plant the little guy early Spring. I've named him "Joe the Christmas tree". :P
Friday will be a rest day. We're meeting Terri J. for dinner, which should be fun. :)
Saturday will be a 3 mile run on the treadmill & then we're heading into Carla's pilates class.
We're hoping to catch Scott U. at his dome house before checking out Christmas in Lynchburg.
A stop by Pam's house & maybe "4 Christmases" or another movie on the agenda will round out Saturday. Sunday....a day of rest, packing, & watching some football. (fingers crossed for boys in blue)

Fudge, the root of all evil & some good!
Fudge during the holidays always reminds me of Grandma Hatie. No matter where we were in the world, Germany, Hawaii, Texas, Kentucky, we could always count on that tin of fudge. The 2nd yr I was in Germany, I had her send numerous tins of fudge to Iraq & Kuwait. She was famous with my ex's unit that's for sure. At one point, the mail delivery was delayed & when they finally got it, my ex had nearly an entire mail truck full of mail from the states. He said the most popular boxes were the ones with Hatie's fudge, of course. :) So, I will always associate fudge with her & the holidays, but I will do everything I can to burn off every piece that goes in my mouth.
Happy Hump Day from the office that still has fudge to give away! :P

Sign me up, Cowboy!
The big "IF" is New York...the NYC marathon & the Fall century ride. Paul S. & I both agreed today that "Leaves of Lincoln" may just fall into our plan quite nicely. Incidentally, Joe said something about going to NY on our 1 yr anniversary of our Halloween meeting. I reminded him that the NYC marathon is usually just a few days to a week after Halloween. So, he's going with me for sure "IF" I get in and "IF" I can train for it. I've already made up my mind that "IF" I get in & I can't start training by June, then I'll take a referral. We can then go to NY on Halloween. How's that for compromise? :P My '09 is based on a bunch of "IFs" but it's nice to know that for once, there's a good, fun, "We" in there for a change.
Tonight's spin was exceptionally sweaty for some reason, maybe the heat was on in there, who knows...(Kim, I finally ate my orange you gave us!)
Kim explains the correct form for everything & she makes the effort to keep us from hurting ourselves. :)
I also worked my abs & no I'm not obsessed with them but I refuse to have a lot of fat there. It's easier to keep fat off there for me then off my behind. :P I did burn 100 calories on the elliptical before I ran into spin class tonight. Monday was productive as usual!
Ahhh, I'm sitting here smiling to myself knowing full well that this time next week, I'll be hugging on a beagle, a nephew, & possibly strolling the decorated river walk of San Antonio. Texas is calling my name...
It wasn't me....
I was WAY too busy to even think about this race on Saturday. I did do it last year on some very tired legs. Looks like I could have placed in my age group this year, though. :P

Houston, the Titans have a problem...
I'm guessing that I burned way over 1,000 calories because I jogged 4.6 miles & then walked it out until the meter read 65 mins. I then did some weights during 1/2 time & spent 2 hrs on the elliptical (low impact, of course) during the 2nd half. I've done this many times before so no big deal. The only bad this is I usually run out of water & leave there starving to death.
12-2 makes me blue.....booo!!!!
This is what it's all about...
Friday, after walking out in disgust of Tullahoma's Red Lobster (Murfreesboro's is much better!), I caught up with some friends that I've not seen much of lately. After Kirby & her magic hands were done with me, I met up with Terri at Harvey's & saw Carla. (That girl sure can get loud when she's teaching aerobics! ha!) I did manage 60 mins on the elliptical while socializing & talking to Joe on the phone. So glad I stayed local & caught up with a few folks because that's what it's all about...
After some ab work, stretching, & the 1 hr spin class Sat morning, I cleaned up & headed to Nashville. Most of the family was already there. These people are so much FUN. Sure, they're mostly on cousin Pam's side of the family but I feel like they're all my immediate family, too. I cannot say enough good things about that side of the family. Even though I braved the Murfreesboro traffic to get the requested cheddar bay biscuits, I still made good time.

Changing my friday...leaving work early...
I may make time for the elliptical after my massage just so I can chit chat with Carla. :)
Finishing the grocery shopping will be next & the vacuum is sitting the living room waiting on me. Friday night will be spent cleaning. Tomorrow I'm on the go again.....9am spin class, Christmas party in Nashville, & to Joe's place. Sunday I'm going to hit the gym hard & watch the Texans - Titans game. I'm planning to run another 4 miles on Sunday. The shin is showing no signs of "What were you thinking?!" right now. My hammies & backside are stiff but that's from standing squats.
At the risk of rocking my TX sister's boat, I went ahead & bought tickets for the Dec 23rd Spurs game at the AT & T Center. She said something about cutting back & not really knowing about us going or not. (they're by no means hurting for money, btw) Well, the boys (& their dad) LOVE the Spurs & I only get to see them once a year as it is...so I bought the tickets on stubhub as a part of their Christmas. She may be annoyed but I am the OLDER one. I'm stronger & faster than her even when injured so there.
I'm getting excited about New Years this year. It definitely won't be me with a migraine & Harper (Hannah's sister's dog) ringing in the new year together. (although he was a sweetie! ha) My new Sweetie is a planner & fun, thank God!

TGIThursday!
Harvey's was pretty full. Snow doesn't clean that place out much but how often do we really get snow anyway? I pray there's not black ice in the morning. I'm getting up earlier than normal to creep into work at 7am.
The dinner invitation with friends tomorrow is starting to sound more appealing than the shotgun trip down to Huntsville's RC Expo. I guess I'll make a game time decision either way at 2:30pm when I leave early tomorrow. Maybe I'll do the unthinkable, come home & watch tv!

Projected Wed Workout & the rest of the week...
Thurs morning will be the usual 5:30am spin & a jog on the deathmill at Harvey's in the evening. (Probably get ALL my laundry done before the weekend.)
Fri will very possibly be a shot gun ride right after work at 4pm to Huntsville's Rocket City Expo with Jill. I plan to seek some deals & get out. I've been really lucky in the past with things I've bought there. (little more Christmas shopping!) NO Exercise Day!
Sat morning I plan to hit up the 1 hr spin class, a quick shower, & I'm off to an afternoon family Christmas party in Nashville. Joe invited me to hang out with him & the kids in the evening. :)
Sun will probably have me at the gym by the early afternoon watching the Texans get beat by the Titans while I burn calories on the elliptical and/or dreadmill. Grocery shopping after the game & relaxing the rest of the day in a clean house will be my next goal. I may get to settle down with a book. I ordered, "Walk This Way" off amazon. :) I'm a freak when it comes to autobiographies & biographies. I'm even more of a freak since I think Steven Tyler & Joe Perry are still very "hot" even to this day. "Swweeetttt Emotion!"

Sweat + Rain = Nasty Cold Wet Clothes
I saw the sub walking out of the spin room as I was going in & she smiled at me. I knew it was going to be HARD. She rips my heart out. All the instructors are hard but this one kills every ounce of soul in my body. Paul S. had told me when I walked in that he had just ran 3 miles. (He's signing up for the CMM 1/2 this month. His 1st 1/2!) I whispered to him, "Is Joyce teaching?" He said, "Yes". I told him we were in for it, especially since we were already sweaty. Half way through class, I took comfort in the fact that Ironman Lana said it was killing her because she hadn't been on a bike since Ironman. By the end of class, I could see that it was raining cats n' dogs through the window outside. If you looked at me, you would have thought I had already been out in the rain. Paul S. said something once that totally describes the classes, something about it being painful but a good pain. Yep, made me not regret the mexican lunch I had today so much. :)
Hello, house...I will vacuum you this week!
Goal: Get Faster!
